I was not a dog person, but I was starting to develop a soft spot for my girlfriend’s family canine.įast forward to about two years ago, and I watched the film for a second time. I don’t know if you could say I suceeded or failed, there was definitely tears in my eyes. At the time I had only been going out with the eventual mother of my child for a few months, and I did my darnedest not to cry. The rollercoaster of emotions I felt watching that film were completely unexpected. I wasn’t at all ready for what I was about to experience. I had assumed it was a chick flick or for kids -I mean come on, it’s a dog film at Christmas, clearly a marketing stunt right? I watched a pirate copy on DVD not long after it came out, which I’m guessing was early 2009, or I might have even seen it before the official release of the film in December 2008 - given that it was a pirate copy I was watching. It was either on TV or on a billboard, or both. I first became aware of Marley when I saw an add for the movie. It’s been thirteen years since the book was first published and the best part of ten years since the film of the same name was released. I finally got around to reading Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World’s Worst Dog by John Grogan. *possible spoilers for both the film and book below* Marley and Me, an inspiring tale of a man and his family’s undying love for their dog
